Yoko Ono, 87 Years Old
Any music lover out there will instantly recognize the other half of the legendary John Lennon, and that’s the one and only Yoko Ono. Just like her late husband, she’s known for her work in the music industry. She was also seen at the frontlines of many peace rallies, especially during war times. Ono grew up in Tokyo and moved to New York in 1953 to live with her family. She became involved in New York City’s downtown artists scene, which included the Fluxus group.
The feminist themes of her music have influenced musicians as diverse as the B-52s and Meredith Monk. During the ‘ 80s, Yoko Ono released the critically acclaimed collaboration with her husband called Double Fantasy. Nowadays, she’ s making huge time investments in art, and her work is said to have been imbued with her philosophy in life. Her most recent installment was the Refugee Boat.
